Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami have officially begun shaping their squad for the upcoming season, making an early statement in the transfer market by adding Argentine defender Facundo Mora as their first signing of 2026.
Inter Miami Strengthens Defense With Argentine Arrival
The 26-year-old right-back has joined Inter Miami on a free transfer after the expiration of his contract with Racing Club. Mura has signed a long-term deal that will keep him at the MLS club until June 2029, marking his first move outside Argentina.
He arrives as a direct replacement for Marcelo Weigandt, who recently returned to Boca Juniors. Club officials were impressed by Mora’s speed, attacking intent, and reliability as a modern full-back.
“𝑰’𝒎 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒋𝒐𝒊𝒏 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑴𝒊𝒂𝒎𝒊,” 𝑴𝒐𝒓𝒂 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒗𝒆. “𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒐𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒔 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒑 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝒘𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒉𝒊𝒆𝒔.”
Messi Factor Plays Key Role in Transfer Decision
Mura leaves Racing Club after making 148 appearances, scoring 12 goals, and lifting four trophies with the Avellaneda-based side. Despite strong interest from several Argentine giants, including River Plate, the chance to play regularly—and alongside Lionel Messi—proved decisive.
“𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒘 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒊𝒕𝒄𝒉 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑴𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒆𝒓,” 𝒂 𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒄𝒆 𝒄𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓 𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒆𝒅.
Inter Miami is not done reinforcing its backline. Following the arrivals of Morata and Sergio Reguilón, the club is also in talks with Palmeiras over Brazilian centre-back Mikael.
Plans are also underway to reshape the midfield, with the club searching for a long-term alternative to Sergio Busquets. Giovani Lo Celso remains a key target, although negotiations with Real Betis are currently stalled.
With early moves already underway, Inter Miami looks determined to build a deeper, more competitive squad around Messi for the challenges ahead.
