Ahead of their sixth-round Bangladesh Football League clash, tension has escalated between Bashundhara Kings and Dhaka Mohammedan—even before the players step onto the pitch. The two sides meet tomorrow at the King’s Arena, but Mohammedan are upset after being refused permission to train at the venue today.
Mohammedan Denied Access to Kings Arena for Pre-Match Training
Mohammedan officials said they had planned their pre-match session at the Kings Arena, but the home club did not grant the schedule. Their coach, Alfaz Ahmed, expressed strong disappointment over the situation.
“𝑾𝒆 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒇𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒎 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒂 𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒃 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝑩𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒂 𝑲𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔. 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒅𝒊𝒅 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏,” 𝑨𝒍𝒇𝒂𝒛 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅. “𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒅𝒊𝒅𝒏’𝒕 𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘 𝒖𝒔 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒂 𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒍𝒐𝒕.”
According to Mohammedan, they had been coordinating since yesterday, hoping for a confirmation. But despite repeated communication, they learned earlier today that training at the King’s Arena would not be possible. Alfaz added that they kept contacting the Football Federation for clarification, but received no clear response.
Bylaws Give Away Team the Right to Train Beforea Match
The Bangladesh Football League bylaws, under Article 12.1, clearly state that the away team is entitled to at least one official practice session at the match venue the day before the fixture. Only the match commissioner has the authority to cancel the session—and that too only due to weather issues or poor field conditions.
With none of these factors in play, Mohammedans believe their right to train was overlooked. Coach Alfaz also pointed out the conflict of interest involving Bashundhara Kings president Imrul Hasan, who also heads the league committee.
“𝑾𝒆 𝒅𝒊𝒅𝒏’𝒕 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒔𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒃𝒆𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒐𝒓 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒈𝒖𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒆,” 𝑨𝒍𝒇𝒂𝒛 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅. “𝑯𝒆 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒃𝒆 𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒃𝒆 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏.”
Mohammedan has already filed an official complaint regarding the matter. Neither Bashundhara Kings nor the Football Federation has issued a statement so far.
However, reports from multiple media outlets suggest that a large social event near Kings Arena today may have disrupted activities—including Bashundhara Kings’ own training plans.
