Brydon Carse in action during a cricket match, ruled out of the 2025 Champions Trophy due to a toe injury, with Rehan Ahmed named as his replacement in the England squad.

England have suffered a setback in the Champions Trophy 2025, with bowling all-rounder Brydon Carse ruled out for the remainder of the tournament due to a toe injury. Carse played in England’s loss to Australia, scoring eight runs and returning figures of 1 for 69 in seven overs.

In his place, England have called up leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed.

Carse was part of England’s recent tour to India in the lead-up to the Champions Trophy, featuring in four of the five T20Is. However, he played just one of the three ODIs before being replaced by Jamie Overton in the second match in Cuttack, where Overton took two wickets.

Rehan, who didn’t get a chance in the India ODIs, has played six 50-over games for England. He joins an England spin attack led by Adil Rashid, with Joe Root and Liam Livingstone providing additional options in the middle overs.

With a must-win clash against Afghanistan coming up on February 26 (Wednesday), Overton is likely to slot into the playing XI as England look to keep their semifinal hopes alive.
