Hibernian put in a commanding performance to ease past St Mirren 3-0 in Paisley, regaining third place in the Scottish Premiership ahead of the international break.

Josh Mulligan’s composed first-half finish set the tone before Chris Cadden doubled the lead after the interval, and substitute Miguel Chaiwa sealed the win late on.

St Mirren were left frustrated as two goals were disallowed by VAR, while Hibs celebrated a first clean sheet in four league matches — a key step in their bid for consistency.

Mulligan Breaks the Deadlock, VAR Denies St Mirren

The hosts thought they had made the perfect start when Marcus Fraser’s header found the net inside five minutes, but a VAR review ruled it offside.

Hibs capitalized on a defensive blunder moments later when Jamie McGrath intercepted a loose pass from St Mirren keeper Shamal George. McGrath’s precise through-ball found Mulligan, who calmly slotted home to give David Gray’s men a 1-0 advantage.

After the break, Dan Nlundulu briefly sparked hope for the Buddies with a powerful finish past Raphael Sallinger, only for VAR to again intervene for another tight offside call.

Cadden and Chaiwa Finish the Job for Confident Hibs

Chris Cadden made it 2-0 with a powerful strike after linking up beautifully with twin brother Nicky, before substitute Miguel Chaiwa added a third to wrap up a dominant display.

Hibs’ win sees them leapfrog Falkirk back into third place, while St Mirren’s wastefulness in attack continues to cost them vital points.

“It’s a massive, massive win. We’ve had fine margins recently, but tonight it went for us,” said Hibs boss David Gray. “We stood up to the physical challenge and showed real character.”

Despite their strong League Cup form, St Mirren’s league struggles persist — they’ve now failed to score in five of their eleven Premiership matches.

“We just weren’t clinical enough,” admitted manager Stephen Robinson. “Whether the VAR calls were right or wrong, Hibs deserved their win. They kept putting pressure on and won the key battles.”

The result marks Hibernian’s first victory in Paisley since 2021, a timely boost for Gray’s men as they aim to push higher in the table after the break.
