Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been handed a two-match suspension following the accumulation of four demerit points in 24 months. These points stem from multiple breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Asia Cup 2025, particularly in high-tension encounters against India.

Haris Rauf’s Controversial Conduct

Rauf’s behavior during the tournament drew widespread attention. The ICC confirmed that the pacer was found guilty of “conduct that brings the game into disrepute” (Article 2.21) on two separate occasions, specifically during the India-Pakistan clashes on September 14 and September 28.

With four demerit points now recorded, Haris Rauf has incurred two suspension points, resulting in him missing Pakistan’s ODIs against South Africa on November 4 and 6, 2025.

Other Sanctions in the Asia Cup

  • The ICC also announced penalties for other players following hearings by the Elite Panel of Match Referees:
  • Suryakumar Yadav, India captain, was fined 30% of his match fee and received two demerit points for a breach of Article 2.21 on September 14.
  • Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan received an official warning and one demerit point.
  • India’s Arshdeep Singh was cleared of an alleged breach under Article 2.6 (use of offensive gestures).
  • Jasprit Bumrah accepted a charge under Article 2.21 during the September 28 final and received an official warning and one demerit point.

ICC Demerit Point System

Under ICC regulations, Level 1 breaches include penalties such as official reprimands, fines up to 50% of match fees, and one or two demerit points. Players who accumulate four or more demerit points within 24 months incur suspension points, leading to bans from one Test or two limited-overs matches. Demerit points remain on the player’s record for two years before being cleared.

“𝑾𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒚, 𝒎𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒈𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒎𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕,” 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑰𝑪𝑪 𝒂𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒅.

With Haris Rauf now suspended, Pakistan’s squad will look for alternate options to fill the pace bowling gap in the upcoming ODIs against South Africa. At the same time, the Asia Cup disciplinary actions serve as a reminder of the ICC’s strict adherence to on-field conduct standards.
