West Indies

The second ODI between Bangladesh and West Indies saw history being made as the visitors bowled an entire innings using only spinners — a first in men’s ODI cricket. Skipper Shai Hope’s side chose not to use their sole pacer, Justin Greaves, for even a single delivery during the match at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Tuesday, October 21.

According to reports, the decision was purely tactical, designed to exploit a spin-friendly surface in Mirpur. Previously, the record for most overs bowled by spinners in a men’s ODI was 44, achieved multiple times by Sri Lanka. West Indies have now surpassed that feat by completing all 50 overs with spin, setting a new benchmark across both men’s and women’s ODIs.

Spin Dominates as Match Ends in a Thrilling Super Over

Bangladesh, opting to bat first, posted 213/7 in 50 overs on a surface that heavily favoured turn. Gudakesh Motie led the bowling with figures of 3/65, while Alick Athanaze impressed with an incredible spell of 10 overs for just 14 runs, including two wickets — the most economical figures of the innings.

The West Indies chase was anchored by captain Shai Hope, who scored 53 off 67 balls to keep his side in the contest. After both teams finished tied on 213, the game went into a super over. West Indies set a target of 11, and Akeal Hosein held his nerve to restrict Bangladesh to 9, sealing a dramatic victory and levelling the series 1–1.

“𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒊𝒕𝒄𝒉 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒓𝒆, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒓 𝒇𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆. 𝑰𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒓𝒚 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒄,” 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝒂 𝑾𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒚𝒔𝒕 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉.
