Australia has announced its squads for the upcoming white-ball series against India, featuring both ODIs and T20Is, with several key players returning. The tour begins on October 19 with the first ODI in Perth and concludes with the final T20I on November 8 in Brisbane.
Starc, Renshaw, and Short Return for ODI Series
Fast bowler Mitchell Starc headlines the comeback list, rejoining the ODI squad alongside Matt Short—who missed the previous series due to a side strain—and Mitch Owen, who was sidelined after suffering a concussion during the T20 leg against South Africa.
Left-handed batter Matthew Renshaw also makes his return to the ODI setup for the first time since 2022, following impressive performances for Australia A and Queensland in domestic one-day cricket.
Meanwhile, Alex Carey will miss the first ODI in Perth to represent South Australia in the Sheffield Shield, after being unavailable for the opening Shield game due to his national duties on the New Zealand tour.
Chair of Selectors George Bailey explained the decision-making process, saying,
“𝑾𝒆’𝒗𝒆 𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒅 𝒂 𝒔𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑶𝑫𝑰 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒘𝒐 𝑻20𝑰𝒔 𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒆𝒏𝒅, 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒄𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒔 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒓’𝒔 𝒓𝒆𝒅-𝒃𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒇𝒊𝒙𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒔.”
Inglis, Ellis Back in T20Is; Maxwell Still Unavailable
In the T20I squad, wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis returns after recovering from a calf injury, while Nathan Ellis is also back following the birth of his first child. However, Glenn Maxwell remains unavailable as he continues to recover from a wrist fracture sustained during the New Zealand tour.
All-rounder Cameron Green will feature in the ODIs but will miss the T20 leg to continue his red-ball preparation for the upcoming Test summer with Western Australia.
Bailey emphasized the importance of balance in selection, stating,
“𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒋𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑻20 𝒔𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒚 𝒕𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝒂 𝒌𝒆𝒚 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒑𝒉𝒂𝒔𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒏𝒆𝒙𝒕 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓’𝒔 𝑻20 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝑪𝒖𝒑. 𝑨𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆, 𝒘𝒆’𝒓𝒆 𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑻𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒅.”
