Adams Leads from the Front
Hampshire booked their spot in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup women’s final after captain Georgia Adams struck an unbeaten 107, guiding her side to a four-wicket win over Surrey. Supported by Mary Taylor’s composed 60 not out and a blazing 50 from Freya Kemp, Hampshire successfully chased Surrey’s 287 with 17 balls remaining at the Utilita Bowl.
Adams’ innings marked her second century for Hampshire, and it came at a crucial moment with the threat of rain always looming. “Having the opportunity to win silverware for Hampshire would be incredible,” Adams reflected after the game, highlighting the transition the team has undergone this season.
Surrey’s Strong Start Halted
Surrey’s total was anchored by Kira Chathli’s 81 and Alice Monaghan’s 55, alongside a handy 60-run stand with Phoebe Franklin. Despite their efforts, Hampshire’s bowlers pulled things back late, with Freya Davies shining with 4 for 39.
Chathli’s half-century, her first in the One-Day Cup, added to what has been an excellent summer for her. But Hampshire’s disciplined attack ensured Surrey fell just short of 300, leaving their batters with a gettable chase despite early setbacks.
Kemp’s Fireworks and Adams’ Composure
The chase began shakily with Hampshire losing two wickets inside four overs. Enter Kemp, who smashed 50 off just 26 balls, with seven boundaries and two sixes, giving Hampshire the momentum they needed. Once she fell, it was Adams who steered the innings calmly, stitching crucial partnerships with Dattani and later Taylor to seal the win.
“𝑰 𝒅𝒊𝒅𝒏’𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒂𝒚 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅𝒃𝒚𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒚𝒂 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒚𝒆𝒕,” 𝑨𝒅𝒂𝒎𝒔 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒎𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒖𝒆 𝒂 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒏 𝒍𝒂𝒘. “𝑯𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒇𝒖𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒏 𝒐𝒇𝒇 𝒃𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒉𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝑯𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒓𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔.”
Final Date with Lancashire
The victory sets up a mouth-watering final clash with Lancashire, who already claimed the Vitality T20 Women’s County Cup earlier this season. For Hampshire, the opportunity of a Metro Bank double looms large, with their men also playing in a final the previous day.
As Adams fittingly cut the winning runs to the boundary, Hampshire’s hopes of a historic season stayed alive — and for Freya Davies, a fairytale farewell is just one win away.
