England have revealed their squads for the upcoming limited-overs tours of South Africa and Ireland, featuring ODIs and T20Is. Jacob Bethell set for record-breaking captaincy. The three-match ODI series against the Proteas kicks off on Tuesday, September 2, at Headingley in Leeds, while the T20I series will follow, starting on September 10.
After wrapping up the South Africa leg, England will face Ireland in a three-match T20I series at Malahide, Dublin, beginning Wednesday, September 17.
Jacob Bethell to Create History as Youngest England Captain
Rising all-rounder Jacob Bethell has been handed the captaincy for the T20I series against Ireland. At just 21 years of age, he is set to become the youngest player ever to lead England in an international fixture.
Meanwhile, pacer Sonny Baker has earned his maiden international call-up after standout performances with the England Lions and in domestic white-ball cricket. The selectors have opted to rest several senior multi-format players for the Ireland tour, with Marcus Trescothick stepping in as Head Coach for the T20 leg.
Chief selector Luke Wright praised the selections:
