WBBL Champion Captain Takes on Leadership Role in Victoria
Former Brisbane Heat captain and two-time WBBL title winner Kirby Short has been named as the head of female cricket at Cricket Victoria, marking a major leadership move ahead of the upcoming domestic season. Short succeeds Sharelle McMahon, who stepped down from the position last year to return to netball in a high-performance role.
Short, 38, brings a wealth of experience to the role. She captained the Heat to consecutive WBBL championships in 2018-19 and 2019-20, and also led Queensland Fire in the WNCL. Known as a spinning allrounder, she featured in 67 WBBL matches before retiring from professional cricket in 2020.
From Queensland Icon to Victorian Leader
Despite her strong Queensland roots, Short expressed her enthusiasm for joining Victoria, citing personal ties to the state.
