Shreyas Iyer Final Heartbreak Continues After Mumbai T20 League Loss

Just days after facing disappointment in the IPL 2025 final, Shreyas Iyer endured another tough loss—this time in the Mumbai T20 League. Iyer, who led the SoBo Mumbai Falcons, saw his team fall short against the Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals in the final match held at Wankhede Stadium.

After a disappointing performance in the IPL 2025 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Iyer’s struggles continued. His team, batting first, managed to post just 157 runs. While Mayuresh Tandel (50) and Harsh Aghav (45) showed some resistance, Iyer himself failed to deliver in the big match, scoring only 12 runs off 17 balls. IPL star Angkrish Raghuvanshi also failed to impress, managing just 7 runs.

Maratha Royals Clinch Title in Tight Chase

In response, the Maratha Royals chased the target down with four balls remaining, thanks to Chinmay Sutar (53) and Awais Khan Naushad (38), who anchored the innings smartly.

Speaking after the loss, Iyer expressed his disappointment but stood by his team:

“I don’t want to pinpoint any particular incident… it’s basically backstabbing, and I don’t enjoy that,” he said.
“The boys gave it their all. We lost just one game before the final. This was a one-off day. Next year, they’ll return stronger with more motivation.”

Despite the loss, the team received praise for their overall performance throughout the tournament. In a special gesture, cricketing legend Rohit Sharma was present at the stadium and personally awarded Iyer the runners-up medal after the match.
